Most van insurance
companies offer discounts or other benefits if you buy online -
here we've gathered together some of the best online deals so you
can compare and contrast - meaning that you should get the best
van insurance policy for you and your business. Terms and conditions
will vary so make sure you read the policies carefully and that
the cover meets your needs.
Our top tip
in finding cheap van insurance is to shop around and take advantage
of discounts. Cheapest van insurance quotes are found online but
go direct to the providers website, a price comparison website may
not be as cheap. We have listed some of the best van insurers from
the UK on the right with links to their websites for a free quote
in minutes.
Insurance approved
security also keeps van insurance costs down, a factory fitted or
aftermarket insurance approved Thatcham category 2 immobiliser or
Thatcham category 1 alarm and immobiliser should help, parking your
van off road overnight also reduces premiums. If you do not have
any No claims bonus check for special introductory offers. Extra
security features can also be added to your van such as steel plate
lock protection, deadbolts and slam locks which are designed to
protect the cargo area. Anti van jacking systems also protect against
theft and work by immobilising the van if it is driven off without
authority, a simple ID card or GPS/GSM remote control systems are
available.
Van
insurance is a legal requirement and provides you with cover against
potentially very high costs. If you cause an accident that results
in loss of life or permanent injury to other people, the cost of
the claim can be into millions of pounds. You cannot drive a van
without a valid van insurance policy and there are fines and penalties,
including jail if you are found to be driving without having van
insurance cover.
The 3 categories
of van insurance are;
- Third Party
Only, covers the policyholder against damage to a third party's
property or to the third party themselves, a Third Party Only
policy will pay for the repair to that other vehicle, and will
pay for any medical claims or injuries suffered by the occupant(s)
of that other car and any passengers in your car other than you.
A Third Party Only policy will not pay for the costs of repairing
your own vehicle nor will it pay anything toward your medical
expenses and if your vehicle is stolen or sets on fire, a Third
Party Only policy will not make any payment toward the theft or
repair of the vehicle.
- Third Party
Fire & Theft, exactly the same as the Third Party Only policy,
but will also pay out in the event that your vehicle is stolen
or sets on fire.
- Fully Comprehensive,
will pay-out for third party damages and injuries, will pay-out
in the event of your vehicle being stolen or set on fire, and
will also pay for any damage to your own vehicle (regardless of
whose fault the accident was).
If the trade
value is not high then it may be worth going for Third Party Fire
and Theft cover or just third party only as opposed to Fully Comprehensive.
