Motorcycle insurance
Motorcycle
insurance quotes available online in just a few minutes
Our top tip
in finding cheap motorcycle insurance is to shop around and take
advantage of discounts. Cheapest motorcycle insurance quotes are
found online but go direct to the providers website, a price comparison
website may not be as cheap. We have listed some of the best motorcycle
insurers from the UK on the right with links to their websites for
a free quote in minutes.
Insurance approved
security also keeps motorcycle insurance costs down, a factory fitted
or aftermarket insurance approved Thatcham category 2 immobiliser
or Thatcham category 1 alarm and immobiliser should help, parking
your motorbike in garage overnight also reduces premiums. If you
do not have any No claims bonus check for special introductory offers.
If you insure
your vehicle for anyone to ride the cost will be understandably
higher unless your named riders are young and inexperienced, in
which case it may be better to insure for all riders. Having extra
excess on your policy can save you money off your insurance, if
you opt to pay for the first £100 or £150 instead of the first £50
you can reduce the cost of your insurance, this indicates you are
unlikely to make smaller claims and will only needclaim in the event
of a major claim.
Motorcycle
insurance is a legal requirement and provides you with cover against
potentially very high costs. If you cause an accident that results
in loss of life or permanent injury to other people, the cost of
the claim can be into millions of pounds. You cannot drive a motorcycle
without a valid motorcycle insurance policy and there are fines
and penalties, including jail if you are found to be driving without
having motorcycle insurance cover.
The 3 categories
of motorcycle insurance are;
- Third Party
Only, covers the policyholder against damage to a third party's
property or to the third party themselves, a Third Party Only
policy will pay for the repair to that other vehicle, and will
pay for any medical claims or injuries suffered by the occupant(s)
of that other car and any passengers in your car other than you.
A Third Party Only policy will not pay for the costs of repairing
your own vehicle nor will it pay anything toward your medical
expenses and if your vehicle is stolen or sets on fire, a Third
Party Only policy will not make any payment toward the theft or
repair of the vehicle.
- Third Party
Fire & Theft, exactly the same as the Third Party Only policy,
but will also pay out in the event that your vehicle is stolen
or sets on fire.
- Fully Comprehensive,
will pay-out for third party damages and injuries, will pay-out
in the event of your vehicle being stolen or set on fire, and
will also pay for any damage to your own vehicle (regardless of
whose fault the accident was).
If the trade
value is not high then it may be worth going for Third Party Fire
and Theft cover or just third party only as opposed to Fully Comprehensive.
