Esure was founded in 1999 by Peter Wood to offer car and home
insurance over the internet as the primary method of selling insurance.
Peter Wood launched Direct Line back in 1985 which was one of the
first companies to directly sell insurance over the telephone, making
the cost of insurance cheaper.
Esure use the
internet and phone to keep premiums low and has become one of the
fastest growing insurers today with over 1 million customers in
less then 5 years. Before launching in 2001 Eusure insurance were
underwriting and manageing Halifax Car Insurance for HBOS . In 2002
Esure home insurance was launched with its contents no claim discount
of up to 45% and in the same year joined with Sainsbury's Bank to
offer car insurance.
In 2003 Esure
travel insurance was launched with reduced prices for single parents
by not automatically including two adults on a family policy. Esure
main offices are in Glasgow and Manchester where claims staff are
trained in an academy system which was given the UK's first 'prior
learning accreditation' status by the Chartered Institute of Insurance.
