Uninsured driver
losses
With the number of uninsured
drivers rising the risk of being hit by one also increases, unfortuantly
not all insurers will pay all the losses even if the accident was due
to the uninsured driver. This means you could loss your no claims bonus
if you haven't protected
it and you may have to pay an excess.
Some insures like DirectLine
insurance promise to maintain your no claims bonus and you will
not have to pay an excess provided you can supply the vehicle registration
number and the make and model of the car. The driver's details would
be useful and if possible it also helps to confirm who is at fault if
you can get the names and addresses of any independent witnesses, if
available.

In most cases you may have
to pay your excess and you may lose your no-claim discount temporarily.
However, once confirmed that the accident was the fault of the uninsured
driver, they will repay your excess, restore your no claims discount
and refund any extra premium you have paid.
