Insurance approved
security
Most new cars built for the
UK market will already have basic insurance approved security in the
form of a factory
fitted Thatcham category 2 immobiliser which you can upgrade
to a category 1 alarm and immobiliser if your insurer offers a better
deal. Some of the more expensive or high performance cars will even
have a factory
fitted Thatcham category 1 alarm and immobiliser as standard.
Non UK cars that have been
imported privatly or classic cars need to have an aftermarket
Thatcham category 2 immobiliser fitted or better still an aftermarket
Thatcham category 1 alarm and immobiliser fitted.

Interactive alarms can text
you if the car security system is triggered or you can immobilise the
engine from you mobile phone, the engine will only cut out if the car
is travelling below 5mph for safty reasons but there is always a small
chance that the car could cut out while crossing a railway line or some
other dangerous spot.
Finally there are insurance
approved tracking systems available that help the Police recover stolen
cars, these should be considered if you have a very expensive car.
