New driver UK motor insurance
New drivers have
no previous driving history so expect to pay more for UK motor insurance.
To find cheaper insurance look out for online offers open to all drivers
or introductory discounts which may only be available to drivers over
23 and hold a full licence held for at least 12 months.
.
New drivers covers
a wide range, from young teenagers to mature drivers so there are different
ways to reducing the cost of motor insurance
At Directline young
drivers who start off their motoring careers as named drivers on another's
policy can build up a no-claims discount if they do not make a claim.
If Direct Line's move is seen as successful, it is likely the rest of
the car insurance industry will follow suit – slashing the costs for fledgling
motorists. Under Direct Line's plan an 18-year-old who spent three years
as a named driver and did not make a claim would build up a 50% discount
if they switched to a policy in their own name aged 21. Meanwhile, a couple
sharing a car would be able to continue maintaining the typical maximum
five years and over no claims bonus that brings a reduction of 70% on
the price of an insurance premium. But drivers hoping to benefit from
the plan will not be able to shop around for car insurance from other
firms, as Direct Line is the only insurer to offer named driver no-claims
discounts.
Mature driver are
in lower risk area so the overall insurance quote will be less plus they
may be eligible for an introductory discount which may only be available
to drivers over 23 but check first in case a full licence must be held
for at least 12 months.
An online discount
will be available to any driver who purchases their insurance online so
it's something to look out for as most online insurers offer this discount.
The 3 categories
of motor insurance are
- Third Party Only,
covers the policyholder against damage to a third party's property or
to the third party themselves, a Third Party Only policy will pay for
the repair to that other car, and will pay for any medical claims or
injuries suffered by the occupant(s) of that other car and any passengers
in your car other than you. A Third Party Only policy will not pay for
the costs of repairing your own vehicle nor will it pay anything toward
your medical expenses and if your vehicle is stolen or sets on fire,
a Third Party Only policy will not make any payment toward the theft
or repair of the car.
- Third Party Fire
& Theft, exactly the same as the Third Party Only policy, but will also
pay out in the event that your car is stolen or sets on fire.
- Fully Comprehensive,
will pay-out for third party damages and injuries, will pay-out in the
event of your car being stolen or set on fire, and will also pay for
any damage to your own car (regardless of whose fault the accident was).
