Driving licence points UK
motor insurance
For those of you
who have completed an insurance application form, either online or off,
you will know that the insurers always ask if you have had any points
on your UK driving licence within the last 5 years. Failure to disclose
such a conviction could result in your insurance being invalidated. It
means that any endorsement you receive will affect the insurance premium
you pay every year for at least 5 years.
.
To find cheaper motor
insurance if you have driving licence points it is best to use a broker
to shop around for you, such as the AA, Budget, Motorquote Direct, it's
4 me, Screentrade, but also try some the direct sell insurers because
there may be some good online offers and discounts for new customers.
Whether you have
had a history of accidents or motoring offenses - Fairly obvious - if
you have spent your entire driving experience careering from accident
to accident (and thus costing Insurance Companies lots of money) then
you can expect to pay a far higher premium than someone who has been driving
for ten years without any accidents. In addition, if you have speeding
fines and reckless driving fines (i.e. penalty points on your license)
then the Insurance Company will charge you at a higher rate than a more
"sedate" driver.
With two straightforward
speeders (the minimum 3 points each) your motor insurance is likely to
increase by between 28% - 44%. That means if you would have paid £500
per year with no convictions, you are likely to have to pay between £640
- £720 with them, and that increase will continue for as long as you have
to answer "yes" to the convictions question on the insurer's application
form.
