Neighbourhood watch UK home
insurance
Many UK home insurance
application forms ask about neigbourhood watch schemes so it's worth thinking
about setting one up for your own benefit and others in the neighbourhood.
Neighbourhood Watch is a partnership where people come together to make
their communities safer. It involves the Police, Community Safety departments
of local authorities, other voluntary organisations and, above all, individuals
and families who want to make their neighbourhoods better places to live.
.
House or home insurance
is split into house contents insurance and house buildings insurance
- House contents
insurance, Covers the cost of replacing possessions lost or damaged
due to unforeseen events (as detailed in the insurance policy)
- House buildings
insurance, Pays the cost of repairing or rebuilding your home if it
is damaged by unforeseen events (as detailed in the insurance policy)
Neighbourhood Watch
is the largest community safety organisation in the country with an estimated
10 million members. Neighbourhood Watch works by developing close liaison
between households in a neighbourhood and the local police. It aims to
help people protect themselves and their properties and to reduce the
fear of crime by means of improved home security, greater vigilance, accurate
reporting of suspicious incidents to the police and by fostering a community
spirit.
Neighbourhood Watch
schemes and associations across the country are always coming up with
new ideas and initiatives to extend the effectiveness of this valuable
community safety organisation. You can search the database of good practice
from the neighbourhood
watch website.
If you would like
to be part of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in your area, contact the Crime
Prevention Co-ordinator at your nearest police station, who will give
you further information or will put you in contact with the Neighbourhood
Watch Co-ordinator of the established scheme.
If there is no scheme
in existence the crime prevention officer will be able to advise you and
assist you how to establish a scheme. Obviously, as the title suggests,
Neighbourhood Watch relies on participation of the neighbours who live
in area, whether this is a close, a road or a block flats.
